Like many Tequilas, Solento is farmed organically, not an uncommon thing in the Jalisco region. But this repo is aged typically nine months in American oak, a little longer than others after open top fermentation and distilled twice. What starts initially as a promising reposado with noticeable blue agave, ends up falling a little short. There’s a light spice, minerality, light floral notes and a more potent sweetness than many reposados and, in fact, is well balanced but finishes with an odd aftertaste, almost a raw root type of flavor that doesn’t support the tequila as a whole. There are indeed light caramel and butterscotch notes from the oak aging and a light citrus zest throughout but it doesn’t tie together in the end. 90
