A mid-level whiskey bourbon that over delivers based on its price, there are plenty of rich notes of crème brûlée, cinnamon, butterscotch, browned butter, resin, charred wood, light lemon zest, and sugared almonds. There is ultimately a terrific balance of wood, spice and grain and this proves to be a whiskey worthy of sipping alone or as a mixer. Aged eight years and made predominately of corn (hence the bourbon designation) along with 8% rye and 8% malted barley this offers terrific value for the price. And historically, with a lot of bourbons and whiskeys from the southern United States named after people, George Dickel was actually a real person. I’m certain he’d be proud that his name is on this bottle. 92
