Egan’s formed their distillery in 1852, and still produces a line of whiskies made by the fifth generation of the Egan family. Light in color, this tells you this is not going to be a deep resonant whiskey. What it is, however, is a delightful moderate whiskey that is ideal for new whiskey drinkers or people who want an everyday dependable whiskey without the richness or peat of other Irish and Scotch whiskies. There are light caramel, butterscotch, and citrus notes of tangerine and lemon, light resin, cinnamon spice and hints of cocoa butter and allspice. It has a solid entry, mid palate and finish and is certainly comprehensive in its approach to the balance of fruit, wood and spice. Fine for serving neat, or as a mixer, it won’t break the bank, but it will break out a smile on your face. 93
