Good heat with a light sweetness. That’s a positive start. The base bourbon comes from the Willett family, so right there, you’re off to an excellent start. The mash bill is comprised of 65% corn, 20% wheat and 15% barley. The entry is enticing, offering browned butter, caramel, butterscotch, sugared almond, dried apricot, light honeysuckle and delicate tobacco leaf. It’s aged in oak for three years, then finished in Chardonnay barrels in California for about 10 months. The finishing adds a lithe viscosity, a slightly confusing, but intriguing element, which at first isn’t definable as a wine barrel, but once declared opens up the unique attributes to this bourbon. Very enjoyable and different than what’s on the market, this is well worth seeking out. 95
