Nikka Coffey Vodka is a blend of corn and malted barley. That mash is then filtered through white birch charcoal. Even at 40% this vodka is surprisingly gentle and clean. To clear up any confusion, the Coffey in the title is not “coffee.” A Coffey still (also known as a column still) facilitates a continual distillation process, one that allows for more distillate to be captured on the first distillation pass. The Nikka offers a smoothness and tactile expression that is velvety and consistent. The vodka shows a slight sweetness from the corn, and a hint of earthiness from the barley. Overall, this is better suited for mixing than sipping and will make any cocktail a more viscous experience. 91
