A somewhat potent bourbon, it starts off with less sweetness than its counterparts. There is definite caramel, butterscotch, lemon zest, resin, clove and toffee. But it also offers a depth of maturity over other bourbons on the market, giving the mid palate and the finish a more full expression. The mash bill of this Fort Collins distilled bourbon is 51% corn, 34% malted barley and 15% rye, which shows why there is a tad less sweetness. The barley adds a grainy texture. On the nose there is buttery caramel, dark cherries, toasted oak, a bit of rye spice, mild cinnamon, and a hint of citrus. All in all, this is a more mellow, less aggressive bourbon than what crowds the store shelves. It’s enjoyable, well priced and certainly won’t disappoint. 92
