Founded by country music star Eric Church, business leader Raj Alva, and created by award-winning blender Ari Sussman, JYSPI Legacy has created its own legacy. This is a blend and instead of blending the grains before fermentation, or sourcing from the typical distilleries, JYPSI sources individual aged whiskey and then blends them. The mash bill, and bear with me is as follows: 70% of JYSPI is seven and eight-year-old Indiana bourbon (99% corn, 1% malt); 21% is 20-year-old Canadian rye (91% rye, 9% malt); and 9% of the blend is four-year-old Indiana single malt (100% malted barley). That’s a lot to get through but it is important because this is a wonderfully smooth whiskey that offers immediate flavor notes of brown sugar, browned butter, citrus zest and resin, which leads into a mid palate of caramel, and toffee-butterscotch. Then the cinnamon and nutmeg notes start moving into sweet French oak wood, light vanilla and a noticeable cherry/black cherry element. That the entry is smooth and even goes a long way to recommend this since it offers what very few whiskies and bourbons don’t – an enticing beginning without any burn. Despite the price tag, this is well worth having on your shelf, an excellent blend masterfully crafted that is a joy to drink. 94
