The spicy rye notes on this are quite evident. Up front the rye takes center stage, as it should, and what follows is supporting caramel, butterscotch, sugared almond, resin and light citrus notes. Castle & Key offers a very pleasant rye whiskey at a price that belies the quality in the glass. Though a tad sweet, it nonetheless is a comprehensive rye that follows the palate throughout ending with a decent finish. Good for use as a mixer, it’s equally pleasant as a sipper. 92
