As gins go, this Damson deviates quite a bit from traditional gin, as all Damson gins do. Damson gin is more of a liqueur made from damson plums macerated in a sugar and gin syrup for eight weeks or more. The plum notes are quite evident, but it lacks any specific gin note. In fact, it’s easy enough to make a Damson gin, and the internet is flooded with recipes to make it yourself at home. As a mixer, it offers lots of possibilities in various cocktails, one where you want a slightly sweet stone fruit quality. Even the most simple of recipes – one part Damson Gin to two parts lime sparkling water or Champagne – provides an enjoyable drink. On its own, it drinks more like a cranberry liqueur and considering its price, you might want to make a home-made batch first. 90
