You may know the story: Friends Gerber and Clooney started Casamigos intending to make tequila according to their personal tastes and for their personal use, with no intent of taking the company public. But, when big money calls…
Fast-forward and the once very good Tequila has dipped in quality. The nose hints at the earthy and spicy cooked agave along with light herbaceous notes. On the palate this offers a hefty sweetness with a spicy mid-character. One thing going for it is that it is definitely smooth on the palate. There has been much dispute about Casamigos using additives, which they claim they do not. But this is unusually sweet and while enjoyable enough, falls a little short of the true nature of cooked agave piña, which, when cooked is sweet, but it also retains its spicy and earthy quality, since these are the dominant characteristics of agave. All in all, Casamigos delivers a good blanco, however there are truer expressions of Tequila on the market. 91
