An earlier iteration of this bottling took a Platinum Award at the 2023 San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge, and this 2024 release took a step up to become the 2025 event’s Brown Spirit of the Year. It again testifies to the validity of the current trend toward finishing whiskey in a second barrel where a little extra outside influence adds an interesting dimension. It’s noticeable here first in the rich red tint to the color, and an aromatic top note of berry compote over the expected caramel and spice. On the palate, the proof number doesn’t offend at all, with the berry, spice and toffee remaining light and lively through a long finish that cleans up any sweetness beautifully. Bravo! 97
