Absolut vodka got its start in Sweden in 1879 and roughly a hundred years later made its debut in the United States in 1975. This is a ubiquitous vodka. It’s a fairly tame vodka, leading with a sweetness that is rather undefined, in spite of being distilled from winter wheat rather than corn. There is a light grainy element to it, dried fruit, a hint of dried grasses. It retains a pretty clean quality, not muddled, no doubt the use of continuous distillation as opposed to batch distilling. This makes Absolut a quality vodka for making cocktails, but not drinking on its own as a sipper. As a mixer its price and relatively clean quality make it a good choice for standard cocktails. There are plenty of higher end vodkas out there, but for the standard mid-week cocktails, this does the job just fine. 89
