There aren’t too many high proof designated tequilas out there, and while this example doesn’t reach what the Gin world calls “Navy Strength” levels, it certainly packs more punch than the average blanco. That said, it’s beautifully balanced on the nose, with pure agave citrus and grass notes with a hint of salinity. The palate is viscous on entry, distributing the flavors promised by the nose evenly across the tongue and finishing brightly with a peppery add in. It doesn’t come off as heated at all, so take care when enjoying its length and complexity – it’ll sneak up on you. It comes in a very attractive package, with the glass molded to show a topographical map representing the “Altura” origin, a polished stone stopper and a beautiful presentation box. Perfect for the Tequila nerd in your life… 95
