Arrogant Bastard Whiskey ($65)

Stone Brewing, a perennial beer fan favorite, partnered with Foundry Distilling to release the new Arrogant Bastard Whiskey. Its appearance is deep amber. The nose offers aromas of malty sweetness, caramel, toasted oak, and hints of hops and roasted coffee This whiskey has been aged for a little more than four years in 30-gallon new charred American oak barrels and has back notes of citrus, herbal tea, and allspice with a finish of citrus zest. It is 100% malted barley. That all sounds good, however the flaw for me is a lack of balance. This is an aggressive whiskey, one that packs a punch right out of the gate. Their tag line, “You’re not worthy,” should suggest this is unapologetically forceful. And yes, there is a market for this style. To be sure, you can cut this, but my reviews are not based on adulterating any spirit, but rather whether they work right out of the bottle. I find this whiskey fairly combative with an aggressive price and, frankly, it doesn’t seem worthy. 89
