Out of Memphis (though actually distilled in Kentucky, then trucked to Memphis for aging and bottling) this medium golden colored bourbon offers toffee, honeysuckle, amber and sugared almond on the nose. Out of the glass it’s a little heavy on the heat and needs either water or ice to mitigate the aggressiveness. The entry is fairly straightforward, and you’ll pick up the resin, butterscotch and sugared almond notes. The mid palate reveals brown sugar, light lemony citrus, baked brioche, and pepper spice. As a mixer, it will pack more of a punch than other bourbons. As a solo pour with a pure ice cube, it’s a fine rendition. All in all, this is a typical straight bourbon whiskey and it does what it does admirably, though not necessarily memorably. 91
