Aged just four years this is a lively bourbon. Resin, toasted almond, dried apricot, citrus zest and brown sugar fill the mouth handily, hitting the front and mid palate, then smoothing out on the finish. The mash bill is 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley. Given the high percentage of corn you’d expect a much sweeter profile, and whereas it certainly offers sweet notes, overall this is much more subdued. Similarly, the white oak isn’t overt either (for you technical folks, they use a medium-plus toast, with a level 3 wood char) but comes across as a poised bourbon. It offers a traditional approach to Kentucky bourbon with a slight edge. 93
