Cutler’s distillery was started by Ian Cutler in Santa Barbara in 2013, perhaps inheriting the distilling bug from his great-grandfather who was a bootlegger in Northern California in the gold rush days. This is exactly what you should expect from a liqueur labeled “apple pie” – notes of apple, cinnamon, vanilla, light spice and citrus. Smartly, it’s not a sweet liqueur and can certainly be enjoyed on its own. Around Santa Barbara, this is the base for a wide variety of cocktails from various bars in the area, so it has a proven track record. The base spirit is Cutler’s (seven times distilled) vodka, which provides the clean, smooth foundation. Ian then combines the vodka with fresh apple juice, certified organic cassia, organic vanilla, and other spices to create what is a very enjoyable and balanced liqueur. 93
