Don Julio 1942 Tequila ($100/375ml)

One of the most iconic tequilas on the market with its tapered bottle is the Don Julio 1942 Añejo. It has been considered a luxury tequila since it was first produced in 2002, to honor Don Julio Gonzalez who began distilling tequila in 1942. There are noticeable cooked agave notes, the earthiness, the light sweetness and the spicy element. The caramel and notes are evident but not aggressive and its biggest selling quality is that this is exceptionally smooth and there is no denying that. The main issue is that for all its notoriety, this is a fairly simple and uncomplicated Añejo, one that is easy to drink, yes, but one that doesn’t provide too many layers. People either swear that is it additive-free, or swear it is not. That argument is irrelevant because either way this is an easy drinking tequila, one that is hugely popular. There are better examples of authentic Añejo on the market, but if you want luxury and an uncomplicated Añejo, this works well. 92
