Glenmorangie began distilling in the Scottish Highlands in the 1730’s at the Morangie farmhouse, and this expression they call “The Original” has a long history of being one of the first single malts to be distilled in the early 1840s. And this is still a standout Scotch expression. The 10-year-old offers bright and expressive citrus notes making this much lighter in style. It’s still wonderfully engaging and you’ll find honeysuckle, resin, apricot, Asian pear, sugared almond, honey-malt, and caramel. It fills the pallet completely both on the entry, the mid palate and the finish. Rested in old American bourbon barrels, this is a terrific everyday Scotch and its price point allows you to always have this on hand (as I do). It is basic but there is also an elegance to it, a burst of bright flavors that is engaging, warm and inviting. It works for new Scotch drinkers, as well as for seasoned Scotch drinkers because it is so fresh and lively. 94
