The nose is classic bourbon — sweet caramel, butterscotch, light resin and citrus. The entry is straightforward and carries all you get on the nose into the palate. There are back notes of cinnamon, apricot and a light wisp of campfire and charred wood. The finish does not diminish at all from the first sip and though this is like other bourbon whiskies out there, High West does an admirable job at a great price, producing a bourbon whiskey that is comprehensive and alluring. A blend of straight bourbon whiskeys aged from two to 13 years (most likely less than 10 overall) the mash bill consists of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley. This is one of those bourbons whose core is compiled from various sources — High West finishes it, but purchases the base. Hence the reason it’s similar to other bourbons on the market. This is a terrific bourbon whiskey and considering its price it excels in the category. 93
