Raicilla is new to me, and it’s something worth your effort to seek out if you’re a fan of other agave-based spirits. Known as Mexico’s original “Moonshine,” it’s typically a blend of wild agaves, that come from either the mountains or the coastal area of Jalisco. This one hails from the mountains, and it definitely lands on the rustic side when compared to Tequila. A rich texture carries flavors of edgy agave, salinity and soft citrus notes that linger long on the palate and beg another sip. It’s a great sip, and it will add an interesting twist to cocktails with similar rustic ingredients like prickly pear. Delightful! Awarded Best Agave Spirit at the 2024 San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge. 96
