This is one of the more mild Añejos I’ve tasted in a while. Typically in this category the sweet and wood influences are very dominant, but here there is a lovely restraint – a quietness to the tequila. Yes, you still can taste the agave from which it was made (often these flavors are obliterated), and the spiciness and earthiness of the agave comes through in spite of the wood aging in American white oak barrels. There are soft notes of caramel, butterscotch, light cracked pepper, resin and vanilla. It offers what few Añejos do – a true taste of the blue weber agave plant, supported by the cooking and aging of the spirit. Perhaps it’s the deep well water they use, as well as this being a confirmed additive-free Tequila, regardless, this is an enjoyable Añejo on all fronts. 93
