The widespread fame and renown, not to mention personal fandom, of Lagavulin 16 year led me to picking up this bottle recently. While not the sensory, seductive campfire bath that the 16 provides, this carries plenty of Islay’s signature smoky character, making it suitable for fans of peaty scotch, and perhaps as well for those who prefer a little less smoke to their fire, so to speak. It carries a sweet citrusy impression from the nose though the palate finish, accented by smoke, nut and sea spray notes. The finish is long and very well integrated, pushing this into my zone of favorites of the type. Excellent, and more than worthy of its own accolades rather than just an alternative to its well-known sibling. Bravo! 95
