Mijenta launched their first Tequila in 2020 and this additive free blanco is two-times distilled in copper pots. Though it hits with the agave notes straight off, there is a surprisingly muddled entry with light sweetness competing for cooked agave notes. In short there is an unfocused quality to it. These non-defined flavors work themselves out to a degree with the mid and back palate, however the first sip is always crucial. The cooked agave, earthiness and light pepper are evident as well as vanilla, fresh fruit, cinnamon spice and an almost raw minty quality. But this does not linger well on the palate, and what does linger is a drab blanco that tastes and feels unfinished. After seeing the awards it has racked up I thought I should re-taste it a few days later, in case I was having an off day. But the second taste confirmed my previous notes. I would expect a $50 Tequila to show better. 88
