Stillwater crafts a rye that wants to be noticed. Though aggressive and fairly high proof, the entry is smooth and alluring. There are definite notes of rye spice, followed by dark caramel, brown sugar, apricot, light resin, browned butter, cinnamon and black pepper. The rye is the most noticeable in the mid palate where it fills out before lingering on the finish. The age is a modest six years and though there are other rye whiskies out there, many lack the rye note to begin with. Here it is dominant, as it should be, but is nicely supported by other notes. 94
