Most gins seem to want to throw a pile of things into the mix – a hefty dose of anything and everything. The problem with that is that most gins are not balanced – heavy on the juniper, heavy on the botanicals, heavy with too much stuff. And though The Botanist uses 22 herbs and botanicals, the ability to seamlessly blend all the disparate ingredients is what sets this gin apart. To be sure, there are notes of juniper, citrus, mint, lavender, green tea, eucalyptus and light menthol and spring wildflower notes, but they all work in concert. It doesn’t shy away from making a statement and you’ll notice a strong entry and slow burn on the finish, but this is a stand alone gin, and firmly so. 93
