From Speyside, in Scotland’s northeastern region. Speyside is home to roughly half of Scotland’s distilleries, therefore the competition is keen. A single malt scotch has to stand out to be noticed. The Singleton offers complex notes of resin, light citrus, roasted grain, vanilla, butterscotch, dried apple, and honey almond. Matured for 12 years in mainly American oak casks, with a smaller portion being European oak, which serves to round off the initially spicy edges, making this single malt pleasantly soft to the taste. What The Singleton does well is to present simply as a single malt – the malt notes are specific and focused and there is little distraction, unlike some single malts that rely too heavily on other flavor elements. To summarize, this is a true to type single malt that is balanced out with the use of oak and the malt roasting process. 93
