I so appreciate the Uncle Nearest commitment to pushing the envelope and letting unique batch offerings make it to market. This single barrel edition was wisely bottled as a such an item, and it shows the caramel/toffee/spice side of what a particular wood can offer to a whiskey. It’s very long on the palate, with expected heat coming forward in the finish, but that heat doesn’t burn away the seductive barrel character. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t seek out high proof as a general rule, but I’d drink this beauty any time. A Platinum Award winner at the 2024 San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge. 94
